INEC CVR Phase Two Ends with 3.7 Million Registrations

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially concluded the second phase of its nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, recording a total of 3,748,704 completed registrations across Nigeria.

The figures, released in the commission’s week 14 update, combine both online pre-registrations and in-person completions at designated centres. This level of participation reflects sustained public interest in the electoral process as the country gradually prepares for the 2027 general elections.

A closer look at the data shows that 2,259,288 Nigerians successfully completed their registration via the online pre-registration portal, while 1,489,416 individuals finalized the process physically.

INEC, however, clarified that the numbers are preliminary and will be subjected to further verification to ensure accuracy and integrity.

With the registration phase now closed, attention has shifted to the next critical stage—displaying the Register of Voters for claims and objections. This process is designed to improve the quality and credibility of the voter database.

The display exercise is scheduled to take place nationwide from April 20 to April 26, 2026. During this period, registered voters will have the opportunity to review their information and report any discrepancies.

INEC has urged all participants from the second phase to take advantage of this window to confirm their details and help identify ineligible entries, including duplicate registrations, deceased individuals, and non-citizens.

The CVR exercise itself is structured in phases. The first phase ran from August 18 to December 10, 2025, while the just-concluded second phase lasted from January 5 to April 17, 2026.

Looking ahead, the third phase of the registration exercise is scheduled to resume on May 4 and will continue until August 17, 2026, offering another opportunity for eligible Nigerians who have yet to register.

This will be followed by an additional round of voter register display for claims and objections between August 24 and August 30, 2026.

INEC reiterated that maintaining a clean and credible voter register remains essential to delivering free, fair, and transparent elections, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process.
