1,100 Abducted in Northern Nigeria in 3 Months – Amnesty

Amnesty International has sounded the alarm over a surge in abductions across northern Nigeria, reporting that no fewer than 1,100 people were kidnapped within a three-month period.

The organisation disclosed this in a post shared on its official X account on Monday, noting that the incidents occurred between January and April 2026.

According to the report, the attacks largely targeted vulnerable populations, including rural communities and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.

The development highlights ongoing security challenges in the region, where communities continue to face threats from armed groups and criminal networks.

Amnesty International called on President Bola Tinubu and his administration to take urgent and decisive steps to address the situation.

It said, “President Bola Tinubu and his government must urgently address the country’s horrifying spate of abductions targeting rural communities and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the northern part of the country as at least 1,100 people have been abducted in three months.”

The organisation’s warning adds to growing concerns among observers and stakeholders about the scale of insecurity in northern Nigeria and the need for stronger protective measures for at-risk communities.
