A tragic accident in Akungba-Akoko, located in Ondo State, has claimed the life of a nine-year-old girl after she was struck by a tipper truck.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday around Supare Junction along Supare Road.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, said the driver of the truck has been taken into custody.
“The Police Command in Ondo State regrets to confirm a fatal motor accident in Akungba-Akoko, resulting in the death of a 9-year-old girl.
“The victim was reportedly knocked down by an unregistered Mercedes-Benz tipper truck and was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she was sadly confirmed dead by a medical doctor,” Jimoh said.
He added that the vehicle has been recovered for inspection, while investigations are ongoing.
“The command commiserates with the family of the deceased and assures the public that justice will be served.”
Jimoh also urged motorists to drive responsibly and follow traffic rules to avoid similar incidents, noting that a full investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
