Tobi Bakre Advises Young Actors on Hard Work

Nigerian actor and model, Tobi Bakre, has stressed the value of hard work, consistency, and professionalism, encouraging young actors to take every task seriously, no matter how small.

Speaking on the Menisms Podcast, the former Big Brother Naija star said opportunities often come to those who show dedication and commitment, even in minor roles.

“To our fellow colleagues out there, to our younger ones… it doesn’t matter what you are doing, just do it well. You don’t know who is watching,” Bakre said.

He noted that many people miss important opportunities because they fail to maintain a strong work ethic over time, adding that consistency can open unexpected doors.

“You know, God has sent people several times, and you didn’t show them anything, so please show something,” the ex-banker added.

Bakre further explained that diligence in small responsibilities can lead to bigger opportunities, using a simple example to drive home his point.

“There are opportunities I will give to someone who I know washes cars, but I see the diligence, the seriousness, and the commitment in how they do what they do.

I could put them in charge of a company once I see just how they’re handling that little thing,” he said.

He rose to prominence as a finalist in the 2018 edition of Big Brother Naija and has since become one of Nollywood’s leading actors.

In 2025, he emerged as the industry’s highest-grossing star, generating over ₦1.4 billion at the box office.

Bakre is known for his role as Obalola in Gangs of Lagos and for his award-winning performance in Brotherhood, which earned him Best Actor in a Drama at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

He has also appeared in Slum King and other films including Sugar Rush, RattleSnake: The Ahanna Story, and The Blood Covenant.

Before venturing into acting, Bakre studied Banking and Finance at the University of Lagos and worked as an investment banker for four years.
