Professor Daniel Nwachukwu, the Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (AE-FUNAI) in Ebonyi State, has strongly encouraged students to report any instances of sexual harassment, extortion, or other inappropriate behavior to the relevant university authorities.
He emphasized that prompt action would be taken to address such issues.
Professor Nwachukwu reassured students that the university is committed to protecting the identities of those who come forward with complaints and will deal firmly with any offenders.
He reiterated the institution’s firm stance against cultism, examination malpractice, inappropriate dressing, “sex-for-marks,” extortion, sexual harassment, and other unethical conduct, stating that the university has zero tolerance for such actions.
This important warning was delivered during the university’s 14th Matriculation Ceremony, held at the Ndufu-Alike campus in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State for the 2025/2026 academic session.
According to him, such misconduct undermines the university’s core values of excellence and integrity and will be punished in line with the provisions of the students’ handbook and other institutional regulations.
He urged students: “Please report any of these offences to the appropriate university authorities, including the Chief Security Officer (CSO), Dean of Students’ Affairs, Director of SERVICOM and other relevant officials. We assure you of prompt action and protection of your identity.”
Nwachukwu revealed that a total of 5,227 students were admitted into the university for the 2025/2026 academic session, and he encouraged the new students to maintain their focus on their academic pursuits.
He warmly welcomed the new students, stating: “Today marks another milestone in our university’s growth as we welcome 5,227 freshmen into our vibrant academic community. On behalf of the university management, I warmly welcome you and appreciate your families and friends who supported you to reach this stage.”
The vice-chancellor proudly described AE-FUNAI as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing public universities, highlighting its continuous national and international recognition.
He shared his vision to establish the university as a leading center for academic and intellectual excellence within Nigeria, across Africa, and in the global academic community.
He added: “Our goal is to create and sustain conditions that will make AE-FUNAI globally competitive and research-driven, while providing students with an exceptional educational experience that will equip them with knowledge and skills beneficial to Nigeria and humanity.”
Nwachukwu advised the newly admitted students to remain disciplined, attend lectures consistently, complete assignments, and actively engage with their lecturers.
He also encouraged them to seek assistance from relevant university authorities whenever needed, mentioning that suggestion boxes are available across the campus for students to submit complaints or concerns.
The vice-chancellor further announced the university’s plans to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its academic curriculum, aiming to prepare students for the demands of the rapidly evolving global environment.
He noted that this plan had already been presented to the university senate members during his inaugural senate address on March 3, 2026.
He concluded with an inspiring message: “As students, you are not just here to earn degrees; you are here to become leaders, innovators and agents of change. Use your time here to explore opportunities, develop your talents and make meaningful contributions to society.”
